James L. Moore, 66, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at Mitchell Berean Church with Pastor Giles Armstrong officiating. Military Rites will be given by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established to Wounded Warrior Project. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Jim was born Sept. 24, 1947, at Scottsbluff, to Donald and Rubye (Smith) Moore. He grew up and received his education in the Scottsbluff-Gering area graduating from Gering High School. He married Sheila Hoffman Oct. 3, 1965, and to this union were born Kevin Lowery Moore and Michelle Ranae Moore.

Jim was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War on Aug. 13, 1969. He received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, Vietnam Service Medal with bronze service star, Combat Medical Badge, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal with “V” device. He was honorably discharged May 12, 1971.

Jim married Ann Rhyne Dec. 11, 1976, and to this union a son was born, Alan James Moore.

Jim worked for Magnolia from 1971-1972 and began his career in law enforcement with the Scottsbluff Police Department in 1972. In 1992, he became a Scotts Bluff County deputy and served as Sheriff of Scotts Bluff County from 1995-1999.

Survivors include his wife Ann; son, Kevin (Lisa) Moore, Isanti, Minn.; daughter, Michelle (Matt) Oetken, Appleton, Wis.; and son A. J. (Michelle) Moore of Gering; grandchildren, Henry, Bennett and Quintin Oetken and Jayla and Brayden Moore; sister, Janice (Mike) Chrisman, McGrew; father. Don Moore, Sidney; stepmother, Marvel Moore, Gurley; niece, Tracey Rahmig, Gering; sister-in-law, Shawna (Dennis) Wagner, Sterling, Colo. and brother-in-law, Mike McBride of Gering.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Rubye Moore.
